Casual Friday: Two Fabrics, One Blouse

Bonjour, mes amis! It’s le weekend, as they say in France, and we are heading into my favorite time of year: fall. It’s still a little warm in Washington, but cool enough for long sleeves, if one is so inclined.

When the days are warm but one is ready to transition to fall, a cotton blouse like this is just the thing.

You may think I am wearing two blouses. That’s just my sort of trick, but I’m not. This clever blouse from MM6 is made from two fabrics: a black poplin and a black and white bandana-print cotton.

I know I just told you to buy a yellow bag and now I am running around with a red one; forgive me

The fitted black top lends a certain chic to the full, bandana-print shirt tails.

This effect is due as much to the fitted sleeves as the fitted bodice. These snug half-sleeves are really quite elegant.

This blouse charmed me

MM6 is a diffusion line of the the luxury label Maison Martin Margiela and is almost as fascinating to me as Marni. Almost.

Like Marni, Maison Martin Margiela is characterized by volume, innovative fabrics, and deconstructed design; MM6 features some of that aesthetic, but the designs are more accessible — intellectually and financially.

Note the accessibility

The bandana-print is so naive that it has some chic all on its own. And this particular interpretation has a little whimsy.

A few words are printed on this fabric, like “intellectual”

Upon closer examination, it says “not intellectual”; hmmmm

Have a fantastic weekend!

As a special weekend bonus, I thought you might get a kick out of this selfie I took with Harper.

Those of you who have tried know: it’s very hard to hold a cat and snap a picture at the same time. Harper wiggled free but then something about the phone held her attention; during this very brief thrall (she’s a little blurry), I caught this image. I like the fact that she appears bigger than me, which is how I think of her.
