Casual Friday: An Embellished Jacket

Although I have counseled a certain amount of caution in acquiring embellished garments, some simply cannot be resisted. Like this jacket:

The lure was irresistible

with jeans and flats
On the Friday before a holiday weekend, anything goes; same is true for the day after Thanksgiving

With jeans and flats it’s perfect for a very casual Friday. This jacket would also look good with white jeans (I think, I think) or ivory corduroys (soon to be the subject of a rapturous post).

For those of you who sew, you could trick out a plain safari or fatigue jacket with fancy trims like these. Just do a quick search for “Indian sari trims” and you will find wondrous supplies.

Here is a better look at the details.
Sparkly trim

Zippered cuffs
Zippered cuffs: You could do this, but why bother; your time would be better spent working on the crystals and embroidery

This jacket came in navy, too — if you are looking for further inspiration.
I knew I was on to something; the navy looks great with white jeans.

  1. That’s embellishment I can get behind! Still washable, and probably looks even better with age. I like the draw string at the waist – taking away any boxy potential. Happy Friday!

  2. Love both jackets and that is clearly a project which done with planning is a great upcycling effort if you relax with sewing. Fun new idea! Thanks. Kate
