When I was in high school, in the 1980s, baggy clothes were in style. Oversized shirts + oversized pants were the thing. That look is coming back. Don’t fall for it!
I’ll tell you what my mother told me in 1986: “You can wear an over-sized shirt with skinny pants or a fitted shirt with baggy pants. But you can’t wear an over-sized shirt with baggy pants.”
En fait, you can. And I did. But you shouldn’t. And I shouldn’t have.
Mom: I should have listened to you then!
I am atoning today by following your advice and spreading it far and wide to the Directorate.
Behold! Wide-legged pants with a short, fitted jacket.
I previously showed this beautiful jacket with an untucked blouse underneath. To be fair, that outfit was a placeholder and I acknowledged at the time that the jacket deserved better.
The jacket is fire with a simple striped jersey underneath, right?
By “fire,” I don’t mean sexyhotness. I mean “compelling beautiful, hypnosis-inducing, want-to-touch-it-but-probably-shouldn’t.” Paired with a white jersey (for contrast) and simple, high-waisted pants (also a light color), the jacket is set-off like the little masterpiece that it is.
From the back, this jacket looks a little like a complicated pipe fitting, doesn’t it? I can’t believe that I originally planned to alter the ski-jump sleeves.
Have I worn this to my new office? Of course I have. The social contract endures even when the parties change.
Jacket: Comme des Garcons from The RealReal; Pants: JCrew (old); Jersey: Ann Tayor (ancient)
the jacket is a cracker jack
Magnifique! Love it with the close-fitting jersey.
The jacket is great and is very nicely paired with the jersey and the pants. Little black jackets like little black dresses are indispensable.
I love the collar of the jacket especially and also enjoy the pop of red with your bag. Where’d you get your shoes? I’m looking for well-made ballet flats.
