Recombinant Dressing

Continuing our exploration of recombinant dressing, I am bringing back a jacket and dress that you have seen before — but not together.

Pairing a jacket and dress that were bought as separates is a little tricky. Only a little. I would give this a difficulty rating of 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Wait and see
You be the judge

The jacket, with its ivory facing, is lighter than the average black jacket and therefore does not overwhelm this boucle dress.

Did they not say they wanted to see old things in new combinations?

They totally said that. You heard it and I heard it.

One caveat on my earlier pronouncement. You do need to start with a sheath style dress and a fitted jacket. If you were starting with a trapeze dress and a frock coat, the difficult rating would be 11.

My dress is maybe more shift than sheath. It must be belted.

This dress came with a self belt that I tie in an off-center bow, but the bow will not fit neatly under a jacket. Therefore, I have contrived with a substitute belt.

I bought this belt from YOOX during one of their special sales. Snapping up interesting belts on sale with no particular use in mind has been one of my better ideas* in the last 12 months. Is there such a thing as blind foresight?

Here is the whole look, with the jacket unbuttoned.

I’m not saying that this is my Best Outfit Ever, but every day cannot be B.O.E. I just like this because I like each of the component pieces and think they look graceful together.

As you can see in this photo, the jacket is a little longer in the back than in the front.

Perhaps you cannot see.
Oh no, my arms are blocking your view of the silhouette

OK. Now you can see.

Have a fantastic weekend!
Now you can see the slope of the jacket hem; very pretty, no?

* One of my better ideas on this blog, which is separate and apart from my four major life activities: profession, household management, personal relationships, and gift-wrapping.

Special Note: We at Directrice Global Industries Ltd. are trying to diagnose and resolve some technical difficulties that have been recurring. One, which is undoubtedly very annoying to those of you who comment, is that an error message appears when you post a comment. I can only apologize and tell you that we are trying to get to the bottom of this problem. Your patience is appreciated.

  1. Testing the comments – my theory is that the comments actually do post, even though an error message appears after the “Post Comment” button is clicked. We are working with our tech person to fix that.

In other points, in my completely unbiased, impartial opinion, The Directrice is the loveliest, smartest, and most stylish dresser in Washington D.C. Just thought you should know.

    • I know. It’s bonkers. But I feel like I am always wrapping (or shipping) presents. I keep an assortment of wrapping paper at my office.
