The Year’s Best

As 2015 comes to a close, it’s time to take a look back.

The year’s posts — which number 137 — are sorted into pedagogical categories like Dressing and Planning, but I thought you might be interested in seeing which are my favorites and which appear to be your favorites.

First, and most important, these are the five funniest posts — in my opinion.

These are my five favorite Business Casual outfits.

And my photographer begs your indulgence to share his favorite Directrice photos from 2015.

Thank you so much for reading this blog — and to those who have shared their enjoyment with me in comments or emails, thank you especially for letting me know.

  1. I don’t think I could pick a definite favourite, without feeling I was doing a disservice to the other posts. I will say however that your blog is one I treasure, and I’m glad I followed the link Sally posted on Already Pretty. Props must be given to your photographer, for his skills and service to the wonderfulness of your blog, despite your dislike of having your photo taken.

I hope that life continues to be good to you, and allows you to continue to provide us with thought-provoking style and merriment into 2016 and beyond.

  3. Just dropping in to echo other comments – great wit, in words and in style. I always look forward to new posts, and so appreciate how you seek out the sweet spot where style meets creative expression and a sense of fun. You point out the fashion “rules” and then happily break them, reminding the rest of us to nudge our own envelopes. Also appreciate those full bookshelves that often serve as your backdrop, as well as your very cool cat and devoted photographer. Many thanks for your perspective. It delights.

  4. And here I was thinking “The Year’s Best” was going to include your favorite readers’ comments! Some of your readers are almost as witty as you. So happy you’ve taken time out of your busy schedule to do this blog. I look forward to it greatly. In fact, one recent morning I found myself disappointed when I realized it was a Tuesday, and thus no Directrice in my inbox.

  5. Dear Directrice,

Even though I live on the opposite side of the world, in a very different climate in sunny Australia, doing a very different job to yours, I really enjoy reading your blog. I always smile when I read your posts and usually learn something too.

Many thanks for taking the time to write the blog, and thanks also to the photographer for his efforts, and the cats for their appearances too!

Best wishes to you and your loved ones for the holiday season from Down Under.

    • Thank you so much, Miss C. I am always so delighted to learn that someone whose day-to-day is different than mine nevertheless gets a kick out of this blog. Perhaps you and other readers from Oz will understand that a huge part of my holiday vacation has been devoted to binge-watching Seasons I and II of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, which may be the subject of a post very soon. I have just watched the episode in which Miss Fisher and Detective Inspector Jack Robinson admit that each means much to the other. The agony!

      • Miss Fisher is my inspiration, and not just for her fabulous wardrobe! If I am in a difficult situation, my instant thought is, “What would Miss Fisher do?”.

We have just had season three on television here in Oz, wonderful as always, and yes, the ongoing saga of Miss Fisher and the inspector continues…but I won’t spoil it for you!

Any new man in my life from now on has high standards to live up to, he has to look at me in the same devoted and admiring way that Inspector Robinson looks at Miss Fisher, I am hoping that is possible in real life…….

  7. Thank you for sharing your incredible style, wit and great taste (and your husband’s great photography). I’m so glad I happened onto your blog just this year – it’s been a joy. Happy holidays and wishes for a wonderful 2016.

  8. Such a lovely roundup of the year’s posts. When I first read it, I found the “To the Jewelry Box” post to be very instructive and I thus resolved to make some changes in my own jewelry box. Unfortunately half a year has passed and change in the box has not been forthcoming. But, there have been so many other changes thanks to the Directrice — citrus red loafers, a marigold bag, a bit more color and a few ruffles now and then. Thank you for all the inspiration (and instruction) this year!
